LEEK Town have been thrown an unexpected lifeline in their quest for the Evo-stik Northern Premier League Division One South title.

The championship looked like Coalville Town's for the taking after their 1-0 victory over the Blues on Saturday.

Second placed Coalville left Harrison Park only needing to win their remaining two games to pip leaders Halesowen Town and Leek for the silverware.

However, Coalville's shock 2-0 home defeat by Gresley FC has thrown the title race wide open.

Leek could snatch the championship from under the noses of their two rivals in a dramatic late twist, providing they beat Bedworth at home this Saturday and the other results go their way.

It depends on Halesowen losing away to Belper and Coalville failing to collect maximum points at Chasetown.

Leek Town put themselves back in the mix by winning 2-1 away to Market Drayton Town on Monday afternoon. Goals by Neil Maguire (7 mins) and Karl Espley (79mins) gain the Blues victory.

Meanwhile, in another big Easter game Leek CSOB thumped Oldham Boro 6-1 in the North West Counties League. Ashley Thompson notched a hat-trick and George Pauley a brace for the rampant Old Boys. Ollie Mellor completed the scoring.
