THE GIRLS and ladies section at Leek Town is hoping to raise funds by staging a series of friendly games at Harrison Park.

The eldest team – the under-17 girls, who were last season's Staffordshire County League treble winners – will play three friendlies.

There will be a small admission charge of £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

All money will go to the girls section and will be divided between the under-17, 14, 12, 11, and 10 teams. Dates are as follows (all games kick off at 7.30pm):

Meanwhile, the under-17s girls team has been entered into the Central Warwickshire League, whichy boasts one of the highest standards in the country.

The girls have had to join at under-18 level as a under-17 league was not available.

The team were expecting to be placed in Division One, due to the girls being a year younger than their opponents, but due to last year's success at under-16 level, they have been put in the Premier Division, playing against the likes of Coventry and Wolves.

Team spokesman Ian Smith said: "Being in the top league will provide a challenge for the players, but this should be good for player development

"We could have appealed the decision and asked to be put in Division One.

"However, everyone involved wanted to play at the highest level possible, so we are happy to be in the premier league."
