CHAMPIONSHIP IN LEEK'S HANDS
Despite Saturday's setback, Blues are in Championship winning form having picked up 28 out of the last 33 points on offer and their destiny is still in their own hands.
To claim the only automatic promotion Blues need to win their four remaining games, including the 'match of the day' against Coalville at Harrison Park, on Saturday.
Leek are now just one point behind Coalville and three behind current leaders Halesowen, but with a game in hand on the West Midlands outfit.
GIRLS U16S LIFT COUNTY CUP
This county final between two teams from north Staffordshire attracted a sizeable crowd and Leek Town went on to beat Stoke Ladies 2-1 at Norton Utd to win the Staffordshire County Cup.
Leek started well and both Katie Maya and Alice Naden had shots on goal that failed to trouble the Stoke goalkeeper.
But Blues took the lead following a goalmouth scramble when the ball eventually found its way out to Katie Maya 12 yards out, and she drove a shot beyond the Stoke keeper to open the scoring.
Leek extended their lead after the break when Kirsty Ryder surged forward to find the net with a vicious shot to put Leek two up.
With four minutes to go a goal line scramble was adjudged to have crossed the Leek goal line to make the score 2-1.
It was a tense final four minutes for Leek but they managed to play the game out for a well deserved win.
Leek team: Hannah Austin, Emma Smith, Charlotte Bromley, Isabel Wretham, Mollie Shaw, Elise Skelding, Amber Stanway, Katie Maya, Chloe Gerrity, Kirsty Ryder, Alice Naden, Becky Rothwell, Lucy Kelsall, Kayleigh Barnes, Amelia Synowiec.
