LEEK Town chairman Andrew Wain has reached agreement with his Crewe Alexandra counterpart John Bowler to pave the way for winger John Johnston to fulfil his dream of professional football.

Crewe have beaten off interest from a number of clubs who have been monitoring his progress, but the South Cheshire club have always been the preferred option and the deal is expected to go through early this week.

As part of the transfer package, it is believed that the League One side will loan the player back to Leek for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Blues skipper Sam Hall came out worst following a clash of heads at Gresley on Saturday and needed running repairs to a wound under his chin, as well as a replacement shirt.

The big midfielder completed the game but visited A&E later in the day to have a stitch inserted.

Defender Dan Smith will be added to the squad at Belper on Saturday after the full back completed his two-match ban at the Gresley game.

However, central defender Andy Bratt will be forced to miss the next four games sitting out a ban for his sending off against Loughborough.

Blues midfielder Steve Brannan returned to the squad on Saturday and won a seat on the bench after working away for much of the season.

His inclusion on the bench allowed Blues' boss Lee Casswell to send Angelo Errico to Eccleshall for match practice – although their game was eventually postponed.

One of Blues' two remaining unscheduled fixtures has finally been re-arranged by the Evo-Stik NPL.

Blues will now visit Chasetown on Tuesday, February 11 – three days after the originally scheduled date.

The game has had to be shifted due to Chasetown's involvement in a Doodson Sports Cup Quarter-Final.

Lee Casswell's side now have a very busy looking month in February, with seven games in just 22 days.
