A BAKERY in Leek will be featured on a new television series this month.
Lawton's Pies, which has a cafe and bakery in Derby Street, will be one of 60 bakeries to be featured in the next series of Britain's Best Bakery.
The new series of the ITV show will start on January 6, with Lawton's Pies featuring on the 4pm episode on Wednesday, January 8.
The search is back on for the best independent bakery in the land.
ITV's Britain's Best Bakery returns with six weeks of tough competition, as 60 bakeries selected from all over Britain make their bid to take the ultimate accolade.
The show is being judged by Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell, who between them have more than 35 years of baking experience. Lawton's Pies owners Steve and Alison Ball have run the shop and cafe for 14 years, and the business itself has been going in Leek since 1928.
Mr Ball said: "We were nominated earlier last year to take part in Britain's Best Bakery and then the production company got in touch.
"They came to film us in the bakery and also filmed around Leek.
"We were given various challenges to do and then asked if we could go to Yorkshire to compete against two other bakeries in a kitchen setting where we were judged for our abilities.
"A lot of customers were filmed in the shop so hopefully people may see someone they know on the show.
"There is a book that goes with the series too, which Lawton's Pies will also be featured in. However, no secret pie recipes are being given away."
In 2012, Lawton's Pies started to offer its cup cakes through online ordering, and then last year started to offer the same internet service for its pies.
