A NEW carnival queen for Leek and Moorlands has been appointed – and the youngster will soon be choosing her retinue.
Nine-year-old Jessica Frost will become the new Leek and Moorlands Carnival Queen in July.
The Beresford Memorial First School pupil is following in the footsteps of both her mum, Claire Milward, and her aunty, Karen Johnson, who have both in the past held the title of the Leek and Moorlands Carnival Queen.
Jessica's grandmother Celia Oakden has made the dresses for the Leek and Moorlands Queens for the past 25 years.
Celia said: "I am looking forward to making a dress for my granddaughter."
Jessica is now on the look out for young girls, aged between five and nine years old, to join her retinue. Participants of the Leek and Moorlands retinue need to pay for their attendant shoes, but the dresses will be supplied by Celia.
Celia said: "We are looking for a whole new retinue as we like to give as many youngsters as possible the opportunity to be a part of it."
The Leek and Moorlands Carnival will take place, this year, on Saturday, July 19, at St Paul's Church Centre in Novi Lane, Leek.
It will start at 1pm and include a host of stalls and games as well as a competition with visiting carnival queens and their retinues.
Jessica and the committee of the carnival queen will be choosing the members of the retinue at a special event on Friday, February 21, at The Hare and Gate pub in Queens Drive, Leek. The event will start at 7pm. For further information about becoming a member of the retinue call Celia on 01538 384732.
