A LEEK man is 'quids in' after winning the top cash prize in a competition.

The Post & Times ran a £1,000 cash giveaway in January in which readers were asked to collect tokens, which were printed in the paper, for their chance to win a share of the grand.

Brian Parr of Leek has been presented with a cheque for £250 by Post & Times editor Stephen Houghton, after being drawn out as the winner.

Mr Parr, aged 76, who lives with his wife Sheila in Sneyd Street, Leek, said: "I am very happy with winning this.

"I will be putting it into the pot for our holidays.

"I have won a shopping voucher before in a similar competition but never won this much. I was very surprised."

Runners up of the competition, who each will receive £150, are: Jackie Simpson of Lowther Place, Leek; Reuben Moss of Blackwood Hall, Endon;

Betty Clarke of Park Lane, Endon; Mrs R Blood, The Crescent, Mayfield, Ashbourne; and Mrs Hollinshead, Ostlers Lane, Cheddleton.
