A new choir is set to take part in a workshop with an inspirational conductor.
Moorland Voices is a new choir which formed in January this year, largely singers from the Staffordshire Moorlands along with a few drawn from around the Stafford area.
The choir is currently developing a diverse and interesting repertoire including classical choral pieces, English folk, gospel, Beatles songs, 30s classics and South African music.
Sue Wardle, vice-chair of Moorland Voices said: "The choir's enthusiastic style and energy is encapsulated in a co-operative approach to our work. Four of our current singers are able to conduct and develop their own approach to music."
The choir's first two concerts at Sieghford and Denstone College were very well received and the choir will be singing at Cicely Haughton school and gardens at Wetley Rocks in aid of the NSPCC, on Sunday, July 13.
Later in the year, Moorland Voices will be joining forces with conductor Nigel M Taylor.
Sue explained: "We are passionate about music and so it seemed a plan sent from heaven when we approached Nigel M Taylor, a superb communicator and conductor, about the possibility of a collaborative choral workshop featuring "The Armed Man".
"He agreed and we plan to go ahead, at the awe-inspiring Denstone College Chapel in October. 100 years on from the start of WW1, Carl Jenkins' Mass for Peace "The Armed Man" remains an ever-popular and very poignant reflection on our times and this was an obvious choice for the day."
Nigel M Taylor has wide experience in music education at local, national and international levels, and his innovative leadership has made a significant contribution to music education in Staffordshire. He has headed Staffordshire Performing Arts and helped to create the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Music Education Partnership, one of 123 music education hubs in England.
Sue added: "Moorland Voices is inviting other choirs and individual singers locally (and from further afield) to come and join us for a choral workshop with Nigel M Taylor on Saturday, October 18 at 10am at Denstone College.
"Places need to be booked by September 20 and information can be found by emailing email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
"The cost for the day will be £15 and will culminate in an informal concert at 5pm, to which friends and relatives can be invited.
"It is advisable to have a look or listen to the piece beforehand, scores can be bought from the internet quite easily but there will be a few available for hire via the booking form.
"Refreshments will be provided but bring a packed lunch and if the weather is fine, the splendid grounds of Denstone College will provide a superb picnic area. We expect it to be a day filled with fantastic music and fun."
