A 12-YEAR-OLD from Leek is taking part in an American stage drama in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

St Edward's Academy student Llewy Hammersley is currently performing in Inherit The Wind at The New Vic Theatre.

Llewy is no stranger to acting both on stage and for film having been a member of the Foxlowe Youth Theatre Group.

In January he joined the Youth Theatre at The New Vic and from there he was encouraged to audition for a 'community cast' part in Inherit The Wind. Since the end of April he has been working daily with the New Vic's professional cast and production team to be ready for the first night of the production which was on Saturday, May 31. The play is still running at the New Vic until tomorrow (June 12). Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E Lee and directed by Peter Leslie Wild, Inherit The Wind is based on the famous Scopes trial in 1925, where an unassuming high-school teacher finds himself at the centre of a worldwide controversy.
