A BARBER has raised more than £300 for charity by refraining from drinking alcohol for a month.

Dan Benson, who owns Dan The Barbers in The Smithfield Centre in Leek, took part in the Macmillan Cancer Support challenge in October.

Dan said: "I do generally have a drink at the weekend but decided to have a go at this as it is such a good cause. I see Macmillan Cancer Support as a good cause because some of our family members have been helped by the charity."

By taking part in Stoptober, Dan managed to raise £306 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

He said: "It was tough for the first few weeks but I started going to the gym more often which helped.

"Through this, I have lost a bit of weight and generally feel fitter."

Father-of-one Dan added: "This is the first time that I have ever done anything like this - doing something for charity.

"The money has been raised through customers donating and I have been putting any tips I have been given into the pot too."
