A Leek sports club is taking part in a large-scale fund-raiser this month.
Four teams of four golfers will be embarking on a unique fund-raising event to raise funds for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
Today, Wednesday July 9, starting at 5.45am, four teams will begin to play the 18th hole at 80 golf courses in Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, culminating with the four teams meeting at the Forest of Arden Golf Course for all 16 players to play the 18th hole at that course at around 7.30pm.
Phil Nicholas , Editor of Midlands Golfer magazine, which is organising the event said: "We have received great support from many golf clubs who have allowed a team to visit their club on this particular day and play their 18th hole.
"My team, which consists of Gareth Shaw, the Staffordshire Golf Development Officer, Bill Eagles, News and Competitions Editor, and Spencer Williams, Commercial Manager at Midlands Golf, will start at Leek Westwood Golf Club, then playing courses in Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield.
"I do know of the wonderful work the Douglas Macmillan Hospice undertakes for so many people and we hope that we will be able to raise around £5,000 through sponsorship for the Hospice."
Liz Clarke , Head of Fund-raising at Douglas Macmillan Hospice, said : " We do wish the 16 golfers every success in completing this unique fund-raising event."
