From hairdressers to a post office, and from pubs to convenience stores, the West End of Leek has it all.
Take a walk down West Street and you will have a number of hair salons to chose from, and there is a popular watering hole and a convenience store as well as a butchers, osteopathic treatment centre, Chinese takeaway, grocers, sandwich shop, launderette and the area's post office.
Down Picton Street is the ever-busy Co-operative shop and a fish and chip shop.
Westwood Post Office is gearing up to serve an influx of additional customers next month when the post office at the Co-operative food store in Buxton Road temporarily closes due to a refurbishment of both the post office branch and the store becoming a Waitrose.
Sub-postmistress at Westwood Post Office, Chris Birch, said: "We have a lot to offer in the West End of Leek.
"Not only does our post office offer even more services since we moved from Picton Street, but we also have a variety of other businesses in the area which all compliment each other.
"We have a lovely community here and everyone is welcome."
The west end of Leek has a number of first and secondary schools and at the heart of the area is the Westwood Road Recreational Grounds..
The open space is cared for by the active residents' group Action West End which liaises with local police officers, authorities and residents with the aim of 'enhancing recreation and play'.
Action West End was initially set up in 2008 to help Staffordshire Moorlands District Council with the design of the new play area on the Westwood Road Recreational Grounds.
Since then the group has become fully constituted and meets regularly to discuss issues in our area.
Representatives from the police, along with local town, district and county councillors attend the group's meetings to take up any concerns and/or feedback raised.
Issues that are generally discussed include policing matters, highways, play areas, and anything else that Action West End could perhaps, as a group, help with.
Action West End also hosts an Annual Family Fun Day on the Westwood Road Recreational Grounds every September – this year on Saturday, September 6.
Last autumn, members of the group were also out planting crocus and daffodil bulbs on the recreational ground, which are now starting to sprout through.
All are welcome to attend the Action West End meetings which are held at Leek Bowling Club, off Beggars Lane.
No-one has to commit to be a member of the group, just pop along if you would like to raise an issue, give any feedback concerning the west end of Leek, if you would like to help at the next Family Fun Day, or if you just wish to sit in on a meeting to hear what's going on in the west end of Leek.
Action West End can be contacted through its Facebook page or by calling 07941 806986.
