A CHEADLE author is celebrating after winning a coveted award for his collection of short stories.

Dan Weatherer has won the Pre-editors and Editors Critters Workshop Best Anthology 2013 with his book of horror stories entitled 'The Soul That Screamed'.

Votes were cast by readers and Dan's book topped a pile of nearly 60 titles.

He said: "I'm ecstatic that my first book has won an award and feel it provides a solid foundation on which to build.

"Next up is a second book and the release of our short film 'Legend of the Chained Oak', which will be entered into the Portobello, Bram Stoker and Stoke Your Fires film festivals, alongside many more.

"The award itself appears on the book cover, but as it has just been announced I don't have a copy yet.

"The book is available via Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats. Copies are also available from Webberley's bookshop in Hanley."

"I'm hoping to work with the Cheadle Arts Council in the near future. As for the film, we are close to making announcements regarding local screenings."
