RESIDENTS were able to have their stocks of apples pressed into juice at a special event at a town centre venue.

The Apple Pressing event took place at The Foxlowe Arts Centre.

It was organised by members of Transition Leek, which is part of a global grassroots movement that aims to strengthen communities by initiating projects in areas of food, transport, energy, education, housing, waste and arts. The group contributes via small-scale local responses to the global challenges of climate change, economic hardship and shrinking supplies of cheap energy. In Leek, the group works mainly on food-related projects but are also interested in the other challenges, particularly in ways to minimise energy expenditure and ideally generate our own renewable energy by community initiatives.
