The collision happened at around 4.10pm on Saturday (August 31) near the Crown Inn in Tean Road and involved a red Citroen Xsara and a silver Volkswagen Polo.

Sadly, the driver of the Citroen, a Cheadle man in his late 70s, has since died at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. He has not yet been named.

None of the other occupants required hospital treatment.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Matt Lovatt at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 543 of August 31.
