A PRESS appeal to help catch people wanted in suspicion of shoplifting in a town centre has been a success.
Cheadle Police asked the Post & Times to print still images taken from CCTV cameras in ASDA in Cheadle of people who they wanted to speak to in connection with shoplifting incidents around the town.
Police have now, as a result, been able to identify some of the suspects and deal with them accordingly.
PC Dave Stubbs, of Cheadle local policing team, said: "The publication of stills in your paper has been very successful.
"I have had a number of people identified and dealt with over the last week.
"As a result of the appeal the following persons have been dealt with;
In relation to the theft from ASDA, Ashbourne Road, Cheadle, on July 14 Craig Stant, aged 3, from Minshall Street, Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested and charged with theft of £37 worth of alcohol and bailed to appear at North Staffs Justice Centre.
In relation to the theft from Late Shop, Tean Road, Cheadle, on May 3 where two males stole a quantity of meat. Both men have been identified and Ryan Lynd, aged 34, of Hope Street, Hanley, has been arrested and charged with theft of £40 worth of meat.
We are in the process of locating the second male.
In relation to the theft from Spar stores in Forsbrook on July 6 where a male stole a quantity of deodorants, Andrew Reece, aged 28, from Bright Street, Stoke-on-Trent, has been identified and arrested for this and a number of other thefts.
He has been charged with theft and has asked for three further offences to be taken into account.
He has been bailed to appear at North Staffs Justice Centre.
In relation to the theft from ASDA, Ashbourne Road, Cheadle, on June 21 where two males entered the store and stole £135.01 worth of alcohol one of the males has been identified and we are in the process of locating him.
"In addition to the above following on from the appeal with regards a theft of two crates of alcohol from Spar Forsbrook on August 2 Adrian Clewlow, aged 28, from Cromartie Street, Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested for this offence and other matters. He has been charged with two counts of theft, shoplifting and also driving other than in accordance with a license and no insurance.
"Also a 34-year-old female from Cheadle has been dealt with by means of Restorative Justice for a theft from ASDA, Ashbourne Road, Cheadle on July 30.
"I will continue to take positive and firm action against those committing crimes against businesses in Cheadle.
"Cheadle is not an easy target and my message is if you come into Cheadle to commit crime you will be caught and dealt with."
