The spectacular setting of Alton Castle will once again be the backdrop for one of the longest-established fund-raising events in the village of Alton – the annual Garden Party and Castle Open Day.

All proceeds from this annual family event go towards St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and to Alton Castle, the nearby Catholic Youth Retreat Centre.

The event will start at 2pm on Saturday, July 5, and includes musical performances by Painsley College and the U3A Ukulele Band, a gymnastics display by Faber Catholic Primary School, Cotton, and maypole dancing by St Thomas' Catholic School, Tean. Activities during the afternoon include abseiling. The more adventurous can rope down a 145 foot drop, but a more sedate 35 foot drop will also be available. Booking is recommended for abseiling by contacting Debbie at Alton Castle – debbie@altoncastle.co.uk.

Children's activities include a football challenge and a JCB digger experience.
