Some fine lap-steel playing is set to be showcased at a village music club this Sunday.
Management at the Dog & Partridge in Marchington has enlisted the talents of singer, musician and songwriter Alex Roberts for this week's Marchington Music Club slot.
Acclaimed to be an artist who represents all the best aspects of the songwriter's craft, Alex Roberts pictured right, is a casual observer of the world that surrounds him, he draws on its roots, it's past and present.
A story teller in the age-old tradition, a balladeer, poet and a writer of impressively prolific output, and with four studio albums released. Alex's songs are shaped, sculpted and coloured by the myriad experiences of his life, from his time spent travelling and absorbing various cultures across Europe and the Indian subcontinent, to his reclusive lifestyle in a tepee. His is a craft well-learned, and invested with depths of emotion and empathy that are unique.
Alex blends genres from baroque to blues, with a warm soulful voice, finger-style acoustic guitar, some fine lapsteel playing, bouzouki, and a stompbox to boot. His writing is honest and direct, uncompromising but often edgy. On stage he threads themes and stories into a timeless and captivating web of song.
Marchington Music Club starts at 5pm and runs until 7.30pm on Sundays. Details: 01283 820394 www.dogandpartridge.co.uk
