THE Leek Group of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust enjoyed a busy and successful day at Leek Show.

Our children's colouring corner proved very popular with children and parents alike who could sit and watch.

Our special Roaches raffle raised £125 on the day which will go towards the Roaches Footpath Appeal.

Work has already begun on this and will continue in phases over the next three years.

Our thanks go to Cotswold Outdoor of Bakewell, Picture Book, Stanley Street, Leek, and The Three Horseshoes Inn, Blackshaw Moor, Leek, for donating the prizes. The lucky winner was Mr & Mrs Steve Gower.

Much interest was shown in our displays and our membership stall.

Further fund-raising was held at the Sainsbury's marquee as we start our year as their Local Charity of the Year.

We are looking forward to attending both the Manifold Show and the Ipstones Agricultural Show over the summer which are also very enjoyable opportunities to meet members old and new.

Monthly reserve work parties continue on both Swineholes and Rod Wood, as does the twice monthly mid-week work-parties, where dry-stone walling, bracken "bashing" and path maintenance are current routines. Anyone wishing to take part in these sessions should contact the secretary of the Leek Group on the number 01538 300264 for further details.

Members of the group are busy surveying ponds in the Staffordshire Moorlands area, which is providing a valuable insight to this under-recorded habitat.
