A LEEK man has been arrested after an incident in the Staffordshire Moorlands town last night.

We reported last night (Monday, September 1) that a Police helicopter had been spotted circling around the roof tops of Leek for a number of hours.

Armed police, along with a police dog, were also spotted in Novi Lane in Leek at around 9pm.

Staffordshire Police have confirmed that the incident did involve the deployment of a force helicopter and that a 19-year-old man has since been arrested.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were alerted to an incident in the Leonard Street area of Leek at approximately 7.30pm on Monday, September 1 after two men were threatened by another man.

"Officers carried out a detailed area search which included deploying a police helicopter to the area."

The spokesman also confirmed this morning (Tuesday, September 2): "A 19-year-old man from Leek has been arrested in connection with the incident and is still in custody. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
